First Meeting!

We had our first meeting with our caseworker on Saturday and it went very well. I have heard so many stories about homestudies, good and bad, that I didn't really know what to expect. She made the inital meeting very easy. She asked questions as she went through our information. Our next meeting is scheduled for the 24th and that will be individual meetings with her. She will ask up about our childhood and things of that nature. Then we have the home evaluation on March 3rd. That is right...just 4 days after we move. That is the way we do things...LOL!! She will also note that we are settling into a new home so it won't be held against us. So, the basic time frame for the homestudy to be complete and finding out about approval is within a month. Can't believe we are already here! So, our next goal is finish packing, getting moved and set up. Then we are attending a workshop through the agency in Winston-Salem on March 7th. We are moving right along!

Happy Monday!

I hope that everyone enjoyed the wonderful weather this weekend. It was absolutely beautiful. On Thursday we got a call from our caseworker. She has setup our initial meeting for this Saturday. We are very excited to get the homestudy started. We will have 3 meetings with her and then the home evaluation. We are also moving at the end of this month. We had been talking over the past couple months about possibly moving but we didn't want to stress about it. We have been praying and asked the Lord to lead us in the right direction. We didn't want to move right after we completed the homestudy and then have them come out and do an update which would cost more money. We found a place about a week ago and prayed really hard about it. It all worked out. We will have our home evaluation done after we get moved in at the new place which by the time all the meetings are completed, it will be right on time. The Lord has a way of working everything out. We are on our way!

The next step

Well obviously I am not blogging everyday but I wanted to give an update. We received an email on Friday that the agency is waiting on one last reference letter and we will be assigned a Caseworker. YAY!!!!!! We are very excited. It is starting to feel more real everyday. We are slowly getting items together through mom and her weekly trips to Goodwill and great friends and family passing things along. I will post some pictures of the nursery after we get it all setup. We are trying to have it all together before the home evaluation even though it isn't required. For now, I hope everyone has a wonderful week and can move past the Panthers losing last night! :( Maybe next year!?!?

The beginning!

We are entering the world of blogging. We are going to give it a shot but not making any promises :)!! I sent out an email back in October to everyone that I had addresses for but a few things have changed since then. I told everyone that we had gotten the news that we were accepted by an adoption agency, which we were very excited about, however we decided not to sign with them after much prayer. We felt God was leading us in a different direction.

On November 21st we officially signed a contract with Christian Adoption Services in Matthews, NC. The majority of the adoptions they complete are in North Carolina which works well for us. We feel a great deal of comfort with this agency and feel God led us to them. We are very excited about what He has in store. We are well into the home study process and hope that after the first of the year we will have our home evaluation. After that is completed we can begin the process of being matched with a birth mother. Please pray that God will be with the birth mothers as they make the hardest decision they will ever have to make.

As for us, we are doing well. I am gearing up for tax season as clients have already started calling. I feel very blessed with how my business has flourished over the past couple years. Chris is working with Bates Enterprises South Division in the Shipping department. He is enjoying it very much. He just finished up a great season with the Carolina Bulldogs. Chris and my sister's husband both played for them this season and they made it through to the first round of the playoffs and lost in overtime. We all had a great time going to the games on Saturday nights and traveling to different cities. Chris was selected to play in the All Star game on Nov 22nd. He was very honored he was chosen and enjoyed playing with guys from other teams. We can't wait to see what next season holds.

Melissa (sister) and Ryan welcomed their first little one into the world on Thanksgiving day at 5:17 a.m. They had a little girl named Haley Maddison Crist weighing in at 7lbs 14ozs 21 inches. I can already tell you that she is being spoiled by everyone.

2008 was such a crazy year with great surprises and events. We are excited to see what 2009 has in store for us.
